An important feature of DVD authoring has been the ability to implement a setup menu for audio and subtitle stream selection. In this menu the user selects which audio stream, and which subtitle stream, or none, is to be played during feature playback.

Unfortunately Encore does not implement this feature for Blu-ray, even though it purports to do so, and lets the user go through the motions of creating such a menu thinking that it will work. The problem is that Encore does not properly implement the Blu-ray commands to remember what stream he user has chosen, and apply it when a timeline is played.

BluStreak Premaster 1.1 implements the "Quickfix Encore Menus" function, which for CS4 only, modifies the commands in the exported BDMV folder (or BDCMF) to implement this feature correctly.

To invoke Quickfix, the user must select "Quickfix Encore Menus" from the Edit Menu or the contextual menu in the lower left part of the Premaster file window. This brings up a new window which displays the Encore menus and their buttons in outline form. You must then find each menu item in the setup menu, and tell Premaster which audio or subtitle stream that the entry is intended to select. Then when the user exports a folder, disc image, or BDCMF, the commands in the exported folder will be modified to work correctly.

Unfortunately CS5 suffers from the same bug, in spite of a fix which the Adobe Encore team implemented and tested with our help, but which has never been released.

You will find a zipped copy of the Encore CS5 application image at the bottom of this page. To install it, select Encore CS5 in the applications folder, right click and choose "Show Package Contents". Then open the folder "MacOS" and replace the file "Adobe Encore".

Unfortunately it was not possible to implement the Quickfix function for CS5, because the commands that are output are completely different than those from CS4, and would require re-multiplexing the menus.

We are working on BluStreak Tracer, a command editing and playback application for Blu-ray. This application will make it possible to fix the bogus commands output by Encore, in order to do proper navigation.
